We’re proud to announce the start of a new article series dedicated to Taiko Music! Each article highlights a particular taiko composition, exploring such elements as history, influences, compositional and performance practices, and legacy.
The first article in the series is dedicated to “Suwa Ikazuchi,” composed by Oguchi Daihachi in the mid-1950s. Regarded as the first contemporary taiko piece, it heralded the start of the kumidaiko performance style that Oguchi and Osuwa Daiko would make famous.
This is just the first of many Taiko Music articles – right now, we have 20 in the works. They’ll be release regularly, although the release schedule is still being worked out. Be sure to check out for more information!
