Announcing the Taiko Oral History Project

We’re proud to announce the 2nd of our new projects – the Taiko Oral History Project! For this project, we’re speaking to performers, educators, and anyone else involved in taiko performance today as part of our mission to document the past, present, and future of taiko performance.

We begin the project with an interview with Kris Bergstrom, Head Instructor at the Los Angeles Taiko Institute (LATI), in which discuss the origins and operations of LATI, Kris’s approach to taiko pedagogy, and his explorations of movement & choreography. Head over to the Oral History page of the website to check it out!

We have more interviews that we’ll be posting in upcoming weeks, and will be continuing to conduct interviews. This is an ongoing project, so if there’s someone you’d like to see interview, please let us know! E-mail Ben at ben (at) taikosource.com and include 1) who you recommend for the project, 2) why you think they should be interviewed, and 3) contact information for the person. Also, we’re considering distributing these interviews in a podcast form as well. If you’re interested in this means of listening to the interviews, please let us know by leaving a comment.

Of course, we’re working on the Music History project as well, and beginning next month we’ll have regular updates that alternate between the two. Thanks as always for your support, and stayed tuned for more!
